HIV AWARENESS CAMPAIGN..

AOWD (Alkhairi Orphanage and Women Development) commemorate 2021 world Aids Day by sensitizing pregnant mother and women of child bearing age on preventing the transmission of HIV from a HIV-positive mother to her child during pregnancy, labour, delivery or breastfeeding (mother-to-child transmission). And also to end inequalities and challenges face by many people living with HIV in Kano State.

About Organization

AOWD (Alkhairi Orphanage and Women Development) is a non-profitable/ non-governmental organization which was established in the year 2018 and registered as a corporate body with Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria CAC/IT/No. 132581 in 2019, Youth Club Edth. (RYC/A.172/2018), Cooperative KN 43416 in 2018, Ministry of women affair in 2019, Nigeria Association of OVC Kano State Chapter in 2020, Ministry of Health in 2021, Kano State Agency for the Control of Aids (KSACA) in 2021, Kano State Civil Society Forum in 2022, Civil Society Action Coalition on Education For All (CSACEFA) in 2022. CAPACITY BUILDING ON: Strengthening Mechanism Against Gender Based Violence in Kano State.

AOWD with support from MacArthur and Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative journalism organized one day capacity building for relevant Stakeholders on strengthening prevention mechanism against Gender Based Violence in Kano State at Mambayya house Kano State on 18 Sept. 2024.

The seminar focusses on prevention mechanism against GBV, Child Safeguarding, Relevant laws on GBV, Case management and psychosocial support. Panellist session was organized to explore more ideas on creating a safe environment for all. The seminar was graced by Ministry of Justice (MOJ), Ministry of Education (MOE), Ministry of Women Affair Children and Disable (MOWA), Kano State Senior Secondary Management Board (KSSMB),  Ministry of Health (MOH), Primary Health Care Management Board (PHMB), National Human Right Commission (NHRC), Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Nigeria Security & Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Media, Civil Society Organization (CSO), Traditional and Religious Leaders, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR REFUGEES,  MIGRANTS & IDPs (NCFRMI), National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Neighbourhood Watch Vigilante among others.

MISSION: To promote gender equality and empowered orphans and vulnerable children, women and youth towards support services for self-reliance. VISION STATEMENT A society where orphans and vulnerable children have improved life through access to basic needs and social justice. OBJECTIVE • To enlighten the general public on Maternal Child Health and Nutrition (MCHN), Malaria, LLIN, HIV/Aids, TB, sexual reproductive health (SRH), good governance and peaceful coexistence among the community member. • To contribute to the development implementation of appropriate policies/programs concerning OVC in state and enroll OVC and adolescent girls back to conventional schools. • To provide and facilitate capacity building for adolescent girls, woman and youth toward poverty eradication and self-reliance in our society. • To provide psychosocial support and paralegal service, advocate, protect and promote the right of OVC, women, adolescent girls, victim of child trafficking / irregular migration, GBV and who are expose to the menace of human trafficking and sundry. • To collaborate and partner with local and international development agencies, government, MDAs and other CSOs. GOAL: Improved and promote quality of life of orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), Youth and women through provision of capacity building support services. AOWD has been working in the area of OVC (Orphans and Vulnerable Children), Youth and Women both young and old from diverse background. The organization also aims at poverty eradication, promoting quality health care system, empowerment of household/families through life skills training, home base care and capacity building for the less privileged women, linkages and access to fundamental human rights of children who are Survivors of Violence Against Children (SVAC) and related matters, campaign against child labor/abuse, drug and substance abuse, strengthening referrals and linkages especially in the area of child protection, awareness on immunization, malnutrition prevention, HIV/AIDs, COVID 19, TB/HIV and psychosocial rehabilitation. Other include promotion of the girl child education, peace and conflict resolution, prevention of harmful cultural practices, and gender inequality.
